“Popular” Company Scavenger Hunt

(This exercise helps students to talk with others to find out what products and companies are popular with the general population. It will give students ideas of what companies they may want to purchase stock in, and areas they want to research further to see if they want to invest their money elsewhere.)

Talk with family, friends and schoolmates to find out what kind of products and services they are using. Here are some questions you might want to consider: 

• What clothes do you wear? 
• What brand of shoes do you purchase?  
• What restaurants do you most frequent?
• What cleaning supplies do you buy?
• Where do you spend your money for entertainment?
• What kinds of foods do you purchase from the grocery store?
• What grocery store do you buy those groceries at?
• What kind of car do you drive to the grocery store?
• Where do you buy gas for that vehicle?
• Now let’s go to the mall. What stores do you like to shop at? What stores do you think are popular with other people? Are there any new hot stores?

Now, that you have enough ideas for questions, it is time to take a survey and collect some data.  Ask five people at least five of the questions above. Please, make sure the questions fit the person you are asking. You probably would not ask a 6th grade student what kind of car they drive, but, you could ask them what their parents drive.
